A Good Memorial Day To You.....

I hope that you're all having a good and peaceful Memorial day. It's really warm here...a picnic by the lake (Any lake) sounds good. Since I cancelled my plans for today because of water problems....the day isn't going to include anything really fun. I have a feeling that the weeds taking over my yard are calling me. (If I try really hard...maybe I can pretend that I don't hear them.)

My Japanese Paper Quilting Cards are done for tomorrow's class at CraftFancy...the theme for the May class is "Lamps". Three Victorian Tiffany-style lamps and one contemporary lamp. I just threw that one in for a change of pace. Which is your favorite?

A Little Redhead....

She's adorable....and she's one of my first attempts at stamping and coloring with Copic Markers. The stamp is made by Greeting Farm.

Don't look too closely...because it's not a perfect coloring job on the card...but I love the colors...and with more practice...I'll get better at it.

The Ongo Colorful Seating Design Ideas

A colorful seating design ideas with soft colors selection will create a refreshing atmosphere to any modern home and office interior design thanks to this cool ONGO seating collection that was recently exhibited at the BLICKFANG exhibition in Stuttgart, Germany. ONGO is a young German company, whose main product is a stool that they are promoting as both furniture and exercise equipment.

The ONGO Seat has a curved footprint and a built-in ball track at the base, which follows every movement of the seated occupant. The movement of the seat is transferred directly to the ball. Each position change creates an acoustic feedback through the rolling noise, which encourages movement to prevent tension, strengthen back muscles and improve posture.

La Finca 4 House in Somosaguas by A-cero

A-cero Architects have designed this stunning reinforced concrete house design of La Finca 4 House located in Somosaguas, a suburb of Madrid. Thiese 1.200 m2 compact single-family house floor plan has the form of a greek cross, and is delimited by the access pathway and the other properties on both of its sides.

The la finca 4 house is guided by 2 main concepts: a great functionality in the distribution of the interior spaces and their openness to the exterior to make the most of the views. Both ideas are also present in the interior design and in the selection of the construction materials.

The design follows a functional structure evolving around the hall stairs, an central design element that provokes a surprising visual and spatial effect. Another breathtaking space is the double height volume that contains the living room.

The building is divided in three levels according to the program’s needs. The access is on the ground floor, where all the more public spaces are located: hall, living and dining rooms, office, TV room and kitchen. The living room occupies a double height space open to the exterior views through great glass panes. All the objects that could interfere with the contemplation of the views, like railings or walls, have been suppressed or replaced by transparent elements. The main entrance door is made of a 6 m high glass pane, letting the visitor perceive the interior of the house.

On a lower level are located the technical installation rooms, laundry, indoor swimming pool, games room, wine cellar, garage and a leisure area with a reading space, dining room and TV.

A staircase with glass railings and a glass corridor that goes through the double height space takes to a studio on the upper level overlooking the living room. Next to this area are the master bedroom, equipped with a walk-in closet and bathroom, and four more bedrooms with bathrooms, organized around a corridor covered with shelves.

The richness of this spatial composition is also apparent in the exterior, and organizes the connection between the house and its surroundings. This dynamical and rich design is also translated to a structural system made only of reinforced concrete walls, avoiding intermediate columns that could alter the space’s scale and cleanliness.

At some point, the structure pierces the façade to form a porch that finishes its composition, protects from the sunlight and creates an interesting play of light and shadow. The house is covered with white travertine, creating a clean and smooth finishing, the porch’s floor and the deck surrounding the pool and jacuzzi are made of ipê wood . The garden on the front of the house is organized in terraces and parterres, forming a decorative outline surrounded by a surface covered with white gravel. Three sculptures are carefully placed in this place, marking the entrance.

The Glenwood Residence by Wernerfield

A stunning residential project of the gleenwood residence located in Dallas, Texas has been created by Wernerfield Architects. The residential project is organized around a central pool courtyard. The main living space and master suite all open onto the courtyard through a series of floor to ceiling mahogany and glass sliding panels that seamlessly integrate interior and exterior. Deep overhangs along these spaces serve to protect the home from the harsh Texas sun and create a generous covered outdoor living area.

This beautiful modern residence was designed to follow the natural site topography, one descends into the courtyard through a steel gate and series of stone walls that run the width of the site and divide public and private space.

Sited around the main natural feature, a massive oak, the home is designed to sit quietly within its surroundings. From the street, the second story office and guest room are pushed to the rear of the site and obscured by this oak to reduce the overall scale of the home.

A natural, yet minimal material palette constructed with rigorous and exacting detail also make the home feel both inviting and modern. A number of environmental features including geothermal heating and cooling, energy star appliances, regional building materials (such as Granbury Texas limestone), and a high performance building envelope are all incorporated into the project.
